Several years ago, I attended a class taught by and well-known homemaking guru, Daryl Hoole. One of her many bits of advice was to do "Something that Stays Done" every day. I have followed this advice off and on, but want to make it a habit in 2011!

P.S. To see the blog that inspired me to get started and to see more great ideas of things to get done, check out dirtylittlesecrets2010.blogspot.com. Thanks, Becky!

Paint Pots

Does this ever happen to you?
I have used the yellow and white paint many times and the containers are shot!
I found these cool containers at the dollar store.
Only a dollar each!  Sweet!
Now I can close the lids!

Packaged Food

Remember my 72-hour kit quest?
I opened my 10-year-old 72-hour kits and decided it was time to replace them.
Earlier this month, I bought new food
and on Saturday, I packaged them in mylar bags from
the Home Storage Center.
Now I can work on the other parts of my kits.

CTR Sharing Time

On Sunday, I get to do sharing time in primary
(that's a lesson for the children at church).
I had gone to Costco yesterday to download some files to be printed.
Today, I picked them up.
I got them cut and laminated and even bought magnets to put on the back.
We're learning about children choosing the right all over the world!

Mom's Table

My mom found a table on the online classifieds
and had it delivered to my house so I could fix the top.
I'm not sure what caused the white spots,
but I took care of them today.
(That's the unsanded leaf on top of the sanded table.)

Yellow Paint and a White Toilet

I worked on my latest big project today
by doing some more painting.
And the contractor brought a new toilet.
And it's not black!!!
And I'm thrilled!!!
Who in their right mind would install a black toilet?
Not someone with five sons!
:-)    :-)    :-)    :-)    :-)

Hinges in back

All of the cupboards in the house have these hinges.
Occasionally they come loose.
I fixed two of them today.
One of them stayed fixed, the other didn't.
I'll keep working on that!

P.S.  Check out my cool calendar.
It's like it was made for my family.
A line for each of us.
(If you need one, it's from FlyLady!)

A Work in Progress

I'm working on a project this week that I am so excited about.
It's one of those that I get to hire people to help me with.
Here's a sneak peek...
I'm only doing the painting part of this one.

Andrea's Office

Today I helped a friend with some things in her newly built office.
She's building in the garage and making an office, two bedrooms, and a storage room.
We also went shopping and found a great deal on a futon for the room, too.
I helped her finish the installation of the cabinets.
(She got hers the same time I got my office cabinets.
80% off at The Restore!)
Then we put the futon together.
This is a project she's been dreaming of for a long time because she works from home
and needed a quiet space to get her work done.
I think it turned out great!

Meeting Daryl

Guess who I met last week!
THE Daryl Hoole!
She invited Becky and I over for lunch to celebrate my year of projects.
Becky has dedicated her project blog this year to
a thought a day from Daryl.
It was a wonderful, inspiring afternoon.
Daryl shares her eternal perspective on homemaking
in everything she says and does.
She even took me on a tour of her house.
My favorite spot was the cubbies in her mud room.
(I'm planning on doing that in my house very soon!)
When I left she gave me an autographed copy of her book and a CD to listen to!
Thanks, Daryl!
Her ipad and her cute husband were fun to see, too!

72-Hour-Food

After opening one of my 10-year-old 72-hour kits,
I decided that it was time for new ones.
Besides that, 10 years ago, there were only five of us.
This time I had to make eight.
Here's what I bought at WalMart.
All of this plus granola bars only cost me $40!
Not bad for eight people for three days.

At the end of the month, I'll be packaging them in #10 cans and sealing them
with oxygen packets so they'll last another 10 years.
(I didn't put beef jerky, raisins, or gum in this time.  They didn't fair too well on the last go around!)

A Clean Car

We finally got the new router figured out and I'm back in business!
This is the bin that sits between the front seats in my Suburban.
It holds all kinds of important stuff.
I was going to be picking The Becky Beck up for lunch at The Daryl Hoole's house today
so I thought I better make my car look presentable.
Here is what it looks like now.
I even vacuumed for her!
:-)

It's that time of year!

Science Fair time that is!
The 10-year-old son had his first turn at doing a science fair project this year.
He chose a project on insulation.
Here is the science fair board in progress.
And here is the finished product.
UPDATE!!!
The-10-year-old has been home from school for four days.
He slept most of the day on Friday.
Friday after school, his friend brought him his science fair board and an award
that said he's a finalist!
His response was,
"I won the science fair asleep!"

I'm having serious computer issues. I'll be posting soon!
