The Office...Befores and Afters

Here it is!

After weeks and weeks of lots of hard work,

the office is complete.

And I love it!

The office was a dining room when we moved into this house.

I didn't want a dining room so we built a wall before we ever moved in.

It then became a storage space.

The place where you stash stuff when company is coming.

It also housed all of the scrapbook supplies, office supplies, kid's homework,

papers from four schools, the husband's scout stuff, the husband's legislature stuff,

pictures, and two cute guinea pigs.

(Along with a lot of other stuff!)

Have I told you how much I love this room?!?!?!

Toe Kick

Now that my cabinets are installed in the "new" office,

I needed to put the toe kicks on.

(I actually didn't install the bottom cabinets, they're just sitting there.)

I only got one 8' piece of toe kick with the cabinets.

It was only $2 and that's all they had.

When I went back I saw that they had a panel for a cabinet island

so I bought it and cut 4"strips of it and used the wood glue to secure it.

I suppose I should have nailed it too, but it seems to be pretty secure.

I have a bit more cleaning to do.

I'll post the final before and after pictures tomorrow!

The Last Corner

I took the cute, white dresser out of the office when I installed my cabinets.

Then I decided to bring it back in.

I replaced these

with it.

Much more sturdy and not as much space for stuff.

The Desk

Here's what the desk looked like earlier this week.

I already put the countertop on the other wall.

(Sorry, no pics of that because I got covered with stuff WAY too fast!)

The countertop for the desk needed to be cut down

so I put my mad handy(wo)man skills to work.

And now it looks like this.

 The 7-year-old even sat here to do his homework today.

 P.S.  See the space on the right between the cupboard and the filing cabinet?

I made that space just for poster board and science fair boards.

Now they won't be bent up behind the couch anymore!

(Isn't that exciting!  Haha!)

Another Corner Conquered

I moved some things around in the office today.

My stamp pad holder was made to hang on a wall,

but it has always sat on a shelf.

Today it has a happy, new home!

 I also got the wrapping paper moved to a better spot...

 Right here...

 Just when I thought I was getting close to having this office makeover complete,

I just thought of something else I want to do.

Remember that tall, white dresser I was sending to the D.I.???

...

What day is it?

See that plastic thing on the wall in the corner?

It holds all my scrapbooking punches and a few other things.

 I took it down today.

 And replaced it with my calendar holder that I love,

but have not had a wall to hang it on.

 And the punches ended up in here!

I'll have to a new calendar since that one is from 2011,

but has cool pictures in it.

Fill-Er-Up

It's time to start filling the cupboards now.

Here's some of the progress.

to replace three of these.

 I put them in here...

 and filled it up!

Hidden Electricity

The husband has been talking about putting a hole in the wall

for the computer cords ever since we moved here.

The printer was kept in the dining room turned office

and the printer cord and power cords were draped around the doorway.

With the wall cut out for the filing cabinet,

I decided it was time to do the honors.

Much better!

The Top Row

I got the rest of the top cupboards installed!

It's looking like this something may actually be finished one day!

 Now I have to start filling them.

Necessity is the Mother of Invention

After getting the plugs moved in the office,

I was itching to hang some of the cabinets

so I created a husband structure to help me out.

I got five of the 9 cabinets hung all.by.myself!

(The others are much bigger so I may have to wait for help from the real husband!)

Plugged In

I asked my brother to help me move a couple of plugs 

and add a new one.

I wanted him to show me how,

but he got here after school let out so I was playing taxi.

After seeing the amount of work it was,

I decided that it was okay for him to do it for me!

Oops!

After I bought cabinets for the second wall,

I took a few of them inside and realized that I had forgotten

about the filing cabinet!

Oops!

Time to get creative!

When I told the husband, he said, "Cut open the wall!"

Which is exactly what I did

after buying this handy-dandy tool.

It even cuts the studs.

This, of course, created another something...

A plug that needs to be moved and some trim around the new hole I created!

It's a good thing I have this blog to keep me busy!  Haha!

Making Way

Today, I made way for the new cabinets.

I cleared the white shelves out 

and got them moved to the garage

to make way for the husband's new cabinet wall!

One Project Creates Another

So...I bought the cabinets in yesterday's post,

cleaned out the room,

and got the cabinets in the room.

When I asked the husband what he thought,

he said, "Why don't you do this wall, too?"

So...back to the Restore to see if they had anything left.

And they had a few that would work for the north wall in the office.

I bought them today and got them home.

Now, the husband keeps saying, "This is an ambitious project!"

It sure is...especially since he keeps adding to it for me!
