Several years ago, I attended a class taught by and well-known homemaking guru, Daryl Hoole. One of her many bits of advice was to do "Something that Stays Done" every day. I have followed this advice off and on, but want to make it a habit in 2011!

P.S. To see the blog that inspired me to get started and to see more great ideas of things to get done, check out dirtylittlesecrets2010.blogspot.com. Thanks, Becky!

Oops!

After I bought cabinets for the second wall,
I took a few of them inside and realized that I had forgotten
about the filing cabinet!
Oops!
Time to get creative!
When I told the husband, he said, "Cut open the wall!"
Which is exactly what I did
after buying this handy-dandy tool.
It even cuts the studs.
This, of course, created another something...
A plug that needs to be moved and some trim around the new hole I created!
It's a good thing I have this blog to keep me busy!  Haha!

Making Way

Today, I made way for the new cabinets.
I cleared the white shelves out
and got them moved to the garage
to make way for the husband's new cabinet wall!

One Project Creates Another

So...I bought the cabinets in yesterday's post,
cleaned out the room,
and got the cabinets in the room.
When I asked the husband what he thought,
he said, "Why don't you do this wall, too?"
So...back to the Restore to see if they had anything left.
And they had a few that would work for the north wall in the office.
I bought them today and got them home.
Now, the husband keeps saying, "This is an ambitious project!"
It sure is...especially since he keeps adding to it for me!
;-)

Restore Redo Day One

I got a screamin' deal on these cabinets at the Restore
and they're brand-spankin' new!
Here's my office before.
And here it is with the cabinets sitting in there.
They need to be mounted and they need a countertop,
but the bottom ones are already being filled.
Yay for lots of storage in cool lookin' cupboards!

Let them through!

We have a few kids who live behind us who jump the fence to go to school.
We had a tree house back there that makes it easy,
but lately, the tree house is falling apart.
I drove an hour to buy this fencing and gate
to put here
so the kids don't get hurt on their way to school.
Now I get to find someone to install it!

Seeing More Red

I finished painting yesterday's before picture...again.
Here it is almost in place.
(I didn't want to put the DVD player on until it dries some more.
It matches the end table I painted last week.
I have one more can of red spray paint left.
Hmmmm!

After is Before

Remember this little table?
I painted it green to kinda match the green wall downstairs.
The problem is that I hadn't planned on putting against this green wall
and it kinda clashes.
Today's something is these after pictures
that will become before pictures for tomorrows post
when it's all finished.
If that doesn't make sense, just check back tomorrow!

Organized Savings

I have been slacking on my couponing lately
so I decided to make a change.
I went back to the file folder method of organizing coupons for a while.
I had a binder and a big bin of coupons
and now I have an organized file box.
Time to go shopping!

In-Sink-Erator

The disposal has been clogged/jammed for a week now.
I won't show you the before pictures of this something.
Today, I went after it with one of these
and now it works like a charm.
It's funny how happy something like this can make a person!

Another Blog

I was asked to share the deals I come across on a
Provident Living blog for church about eight months ago.
I went to a meeting Sunday and somehow got put in charge of doing the whole blog.
I spent a whole bunch of time today on it.
You can check it out if you'd like...

Fall is in the Air

I bought this little wooden box at Saver's a while back
not knowing what I would do with it.
The summer flowers are fading fast
so today I bought some mums to put a little color on the porch.
I painted the box black to match the front door and
put the red and yellow flowers in it.
So, here's the porch now.
The only bad part about the cooler temperatures

is that my spray painting days are numbered!

Seeing Red

I got this hand-me-down end table from my sister-in-law when she moved.

It fits nicely between two of the couches in the basement,
however, it needed a little sanding and a little color.
The current end table was much too big.
I'm hoping to find a big rug for this room that is tan, brown, green, and red.
So red for the end table seemed perfect.

I have some more red planned for this room.
Looks like I get to find a new lamp too.
Sounds like a good reason to make a trip to the thrift store to me!

Something That Didn't Stay Done

I fixed this railing several months ago and it didn't stay done,
so today I got to do it again.
This time I did it right
 and used some of these.
(My dad used to call them Molly Bolts.  I wonder who Molly is!?!)

 That should hold.
If the boys don't hang on it, that is!

Mirror, Mirror

While my sister, Karla, was at Saver's finding things for me to paint,
she found this cute little mirror for the 3-year-old girl's room.
I painted it to match the furniture I painted last month.
I like how the wood grain shows through.

Sister Post

So, I've tried to get my sisters to join in my blog and I've only had one take me up on the offer.
(I have four sisters and it was only one post.)
So...my sister, Karla, decided to join in.
Here is how she did it...
She went to Saver's,
bought this little table,
and brought it to me to paint!
Pretty sneaky, I'd say!
She wanted me to restain it, but I told her that wasn't an option.
I chose a dark red color that will look great in her living room.

Another Trip to the Forklift Store

I went to Home Depot to buy supplies for
next week's projects.
I hope you like red!

$6,000

I earned myself $6,000 today.
Sort of.
I was introduced to a company who would do a much needed medical test on my daughter
in exchange for a little bit of feedback through their website.
The test was done many months ago
and today I finally finished the survey.
That something sure paid off!

Christmas in September

I saw this cute idea in blogland and decided to try it out to go with the wedding gift I posted yesterday.
It is a wedding announcement in a Christmas bulb.
I love how it turned out!
I'm tempted to find my wedding announcement and cut and curl it up!
