Several years ago, I attended a class taught by and well-known homemaking guru, Daryl Hoole. One of her many bits of advice was to do "Something that Stays Done" every day. I have followed this advice off and on, but want to make it a habit in 2011!

P.S. To see the blog that inspired me to get started and to see more great ideas of things to get done, check out dirtylittlesecrets2010.blogspot.com. Thanks, Becky!

Final Resting Place

We have moved this wood around the yard too many times.
Today it finally got to the place where it will stay.
Here it is on the pad we had poured for the shed.
Here is the corner where it is going.
And here it is in the spot where it will stay.
How many times can wood warm you?
As many as you want it too.
(This was a hot job in the 93 degree heat!)

Pavers Part Two

Remember these pavers from earlier this week?
This is where the pavers are going.
Here they are.
And this is what is going on them...tomorrow's project.
I planned on doing this project yesterday, but the hail storm got in the way;).

Sorting, Cutting, and Filing

Spent some time today getting caught up on one of my favorite hobbies;).
I've been neglecting my coupons since summer began,
but need to get back into the groove because I hate paying full price for anything!
Now I need to go shopping!

Pavers

I bought these for my next project.
It's gonna be a big one!

Repurposed Dresser

This Ikea dresser has seen better days.
Since my sister-in-law gave the 7-year-old a new one when she moved,
it was time for this one to go.
I took the drawers apart and decided to reuse some of the parts.
This is the new enclosure for the piggies.
I plan to put an addition on their cage soon to fit the whole box.
And aren't these drawer fronts screaming for some spray paint and vinyl letters?
What do you think they should say?

Catch Up Week - Day Five

I usually have a good stash of wedding gifts in the office,
but I've run out lately.
I used a coupon to Michael's to buy three cute frames for gifts.
I took one to a wedding last night and got the other two ready to drop off at weddings I missed.
It's nice to be caught up on that job!

Catch Up Week - Day Four

Fly Lady calls them Hot Spots and I have my fair share of them.
This is one I took care of...again.
Why does everything end up in spots like these?

Catch Up Week - Day Three

Today's catch up project was this closet!
It is meant for coats, jackets, and shoes that we use every day.
I found a lot more than that in there.
Before...
 After...
I found cleats, boots, and lots and lots of shoes that needed to go somewhere else.
Some went to the D.I., some to the basement storage, some to bedrooms, some to give away,
and even some to the garbage.

Catch Up Week - Day Two

I tackled the pantry today.
Threw away two grocery bags full of stuff.
Some of the stuff wasn't even food.
I don't know how it got in there, but now it's gone.
Before...
 After...

Catch up week - Day One

The husband, the 15-year-old, and the 12-year-old left for scout camp this morning.
A couple of years ago, while they and the 10-year-old went on a cruise,
I cleaned out, organized, and had the garage walls and floor painted as a surprise.
I was trying to decide what project to do this week,
so instead of a big project, I'm going to quickly revisit a few places that I've posted in the past.
Hopefully, the projects will take MUCH LESS time this time around.

Today, I cleaned the laundry room.
It's amazing how many clothes you have when there are 8 people in your house.
That's 16+ socks a day, ya know!
Here's what it looked like this morning...
and what it looks like now...
This job took about two days less this time around!

Yellow Grass

We went on a little soccer tournament vacation and came home to some yellow grass.
This is the before picture of the grass.
I adjusted the sprinklers and hopefully fixed the problem.
My camera isn't waterproof so I couldn't show you the difference!

Bills, Bills, Bills

When I receive a bill in the mail,
I put it on the countertop near the computer so I can pay it.
Lately, my bill piles have been getting moved which makes bills late:-/.
So I started to stash them behind the computer screen.
That didn't help.

I found this "bill keeper" at Saver's for $1.
Hopefully, they'll look like they're supposed to be there now
and I can pay them on time!

More free plants!

My mom had an overflowing pot of hens an chicks that my sister thinned out.
She brought the extras to me!
Now they are all planted in the yard!

A new dresser

When my sister-in-law moved, we ended up with lots of good stuff they didn't need anymore.
This former changing table turned dresser now belongs to the 7-year-old.
Here's the before picture...
(The 12-year-old made sure it looked especially messy right before I took the picture.)
And here it is after...
It's bigger and much more sturdy.
Just what he needed!
Thanks again, Aunt Jana!

The Basement Bathroom

When I was going through cupboards earlier this year,
I forgot about this one.
I went downstairs the other day and wondered why the pile of towels was on the floor.
Shouldn't they be in the cupboard?
Well...when I looked, this is what I found!
And this is how I fixed it.

Then I asked the 15-year-old to clean out his drawer.
And this is how he fixed it.
It's amazing how much we keep around that really just needs to be thrown out.
Everything that was removed from the cupboard and drawer went in the trash!

Roses are Yellow

I only have one rose bush at my house and it has beautiful yellow roses.
It just got through blooming so I trimmed it today.
I'm looking forward to some more big, yellow roses!

Recycling Sod

I had a piece of sod that I removed in the yard because it was in a spot
where the lawnmower won't fit after we get a shed.
I replaced it with bark.

Then I cut a piece off and put it in a bare spot in the front yard.

More Hand-Me-Downs

I spent some time today going through twin 2-year-old clothes.
(I hadn't made it through all of the winter clothes yet.)
The pile in the laundry room was getting out of control.
So I sorted and bagged and now can hand them down another couple of 2-year-olds.

One project leads to another!

When I went to put the drawer back, I decided that the tool bench needed some love.
I rearranged some drawers and cleared the top off.
I got a miter saw for my birthday last week and now I have a place to use it!
Yay!

Where's the wood glue?

We had a drawer in the garage fall apart recently.
It was full of heavy tools.
I brought it in and, of course, couldn't find the wood glue in the place where it belongs.
Lucky for me, my sister-in-law was moving and the movers wouldn't pack her wood glue.
Thanks, Aunt Jana!
