Several years ago, I attended a class taught by and well-known homemaking guru, Daryl Hoole. One of her many bits of advice was to do "Something that Stays Done" every day. I have followed this advice off and on, but want to make it a habit in 2011!

P.S. To see the blog that inspired me to get started and to see more great ideas of things to get done, check out dirtylittlesecrets2010.blogspot.com. Thanks, Becky!

Bathroom Organizing

I'm dying to use my new paint gun, but it's cold and snowing again today!
I did manage to clean out the main floor hallway.
I put all of the snow pants, gloves, hats, etc. away for the winter.
I'm planning on this being the last snowstorm.
It will be May in two days, ya know.

Tonight, I organized the cupboard in the boys' bathroom while the little ones took a bath.
I found lots of sunscreen that we'll need eventually
and first aid supplies that we always need.

Thrift Store Revamp

I'm pretty good at copying crafty projects, but...
I've always wanted to be one of those people who can walk into a thrift store and buy something
awful and think of something wonderful to turn it into.
I did it today!
I went to Saver's and
I found this frame
and this Christmas wreath
and created this!
I have to work on the ribbon, but I kinda like how the whole thing turned out!
(Sorry about the cell phone pics.  My camera is in a sleeping baby's room.)

Now I'm on my way outside to sand and paint something else!

WARNING!

Starting a project blog can cause bad things to happen to your daily chores!
I would tell you how long it's been since I deep cleaned my bathroom,
but I can't remember the last time it happened!
Here is something I just had to take care of today...
I need to have my housekeeper do this while I paint and organize.
Oh, wait...I don't have a housekeeper!
I'll have to work on that!

Another Closet

It seems like I live at the hardware store lately.
Today's trip was for a shelf for the top of the closets I'm working on.
I got a shelf for the little boys' closet.
And I moved the organizer in the little girl's closet and put a shelf on top there too.
Here's the before and after...
This something will make these closets easier to keep organized!

P.S. I found the coolest little shelf at the D.I. the other day.
I think that it is actually going to be nice weather tomorrow.
(It snowed yesterday!)
Can't wait to use my new paint sprayer!

Closet Shelves

I mentioned in my last post that I got shelves at Ikea
for my closet organizers for a buck a piece.
They were not white, but for such a great price I thought I could just paint them.
I bought spray paint to do the trick.
I ran out a little too soon, but for a shelf behind a closet door, I decided that this was good enough.

The Little Boys' Closet

When the little boy fell asleep on the couch,
I knew which something was going to get done today.
I rearranged the shelves in the boys' closet.
I bought a shower curtain rod for the closet rod so I wouldn't have to use any tools
and could move it up and add another rod as they get older.
The rod is behind the sliding closet doors below.
I got some more shelves at Ikea for these closet organizers.
That's something for another day because I got tan shelves on clearance - 2 for $1.99.
I figured that was worth painting...and I have a new paint gun!
Hope it stops raining one of these days so I can get busy!

I also got something put away...
and it's only one day after Easter!

Harbor Freight Fun

Today's something was going to Harbor Freight to buy supplies for a few projects.
I bought an air compressor, a paint gun attachment, and a nail gun.
Can't wait to show you what I have planned with these fun toys!

Leaves and Tortillas

I got two somethings done today.
We have an outside entrance with not much of a drain on the side of the house.
It gets full of leaves and water occasionally so we got it cleaned out today.

Last time we cleaned it out my 15-year-old used the water for his
science fair project and won at the school and district levels.

I also made a couple of freezer meals.
The husband bought a huge package of corn tortillas last week
so I found a recipe to use them.
I cooked one and froze two.
That's two nights of freedom in my future!

Fieldtrip

Today I didn't finish a project in my house,
but I did finish something fun.
I took the kids to Davis County!
My 10-year-old has to do a report on Davis County for school
and we have a family tradition of visiting the 4th grade county report county over Spring Break.
We went to Hill AFB and Antelope Island.
Three counties down,
three to go!

Basement Clean Up

When their bedroom flooded,
we put the 15-year-old and the 12-year-old's bedroom in the basement family room.
They moved back in a while ago except for a bunch of 'stuff.'
This before picture was taken about half way through the project.
Today my 15-year-old helped me finish putting it all away.
I have big plans for this room.
Just waiting for the money gods to say that I can go for it or for a good deal!

27-Thing-Fling

Today is the first day of Spring Break which means that I have all of my kids
and most of the neighbor kids here for a whole week.
My projects may be small this week, but I'll get 'em done!
Today I followed FlyLady's advice and did a 27-Thing-Fling.
I went through my closet and filled a bag for the D.I. (thrift store).

Double Trouble

My sister-in-law had these cute outfits made for the twins when they were just a few months old.
I thought I would keep them and make pillows out of them one day.
That day is today!
This same sister-in-law gave me a cool flag pillow once that I used so much that it got dirty.
I washed it an the covering fell apart.
The stuffing survived so I used it to stuff the pillows.
I love how this blog makes me complete two-year-old projects ;)!

Do A Good Turn Daily

Making dinner doesn't usually count as something that stays done
unless it's dinner for another night or another family!
I made dinner for a sick friend today.
And baked 250 cookies for a church activity.
Thankfully, they were pre-made, pre-frozen dough discs because
I remembered that I had volunteered to bake the cookies at 4p.m. for a 7p.m. activity.
My nice neighbor let me use her oven.
She has twins too, so she understands how I could have forgotten!

Sister Post

My sister sent me pictures of a few of her finished projects today.
She is an amazing seamstress (like made my wedding dress amazing) and she's been busy.
Don't you just love these washcloths?
And look at what she can create out of a pile of scraps!
Hey, I see my bride's maids dress material!
How fun!  She's been holding onto that for 17 years!
Keep 'em comin', Joylyn!

Case Lot Sale

I decided that today I needed a break from the books and the bedrooms upstairs.
So I chose a project in the basement.
I spent some time this week at Smith's and Macey's case lot sales.
I like to keep my storage room pretty organized so I'm sure to rotate the food I buy.
Today I labeled and shelved everything I bought.
I love seeing the finished product of posts like this.
I just wish the rest of my house were so organized.
Maybe if I keep this blog up for a few years, it will be;)!

More Progress

Yesterday's after picture is today's before picture.
I got the books moved to their new home today.
We really need to get rid of some because I have another closet with lots of books.
I want to have them all in the same place.
And I don't really want to use another shelf.
I'll need the help of the husband and the kids for that one
because he does most of the reading at night to them.
Lucky kids!

A Work in Progress

The upstairs bedrooms are taking their time (or my time, I should say).
It's hard to get them done because I usually do my somethings while the little ones are sleeping.
But they sleep in the rooms I'm working in.
So...
Here is today's progress.
I got book/storage shelves emptied and moved.
They are actually Ikea closet organizers that I used my old house that don't work as well here
because the closet doors slide instead of fold open.
I moved one yesterday.
And two more today.
This is two of the three places full of books that will now be together in one place.

Let's try that again!

A little while ago, I changed the bedrooms around upstairs.
Well...
it backfired!
The little girl hates it!
She cries when I put her in her crib
and her "new" room is really bright and she can't sleep at nap time.
So...
today I began the process of trading the rooms back.
It wouldn't be too bad, but I have to disassemble the cribs to get them out the door.
She's back in her original room tonight and is sleeping soundly.
Her brother is in his bed in his "new" room and he thinks that's pretty cool too!
Here's the work in progress...
Room 1 before...
 Room 1 during...
 Room 2 during...
I'll post the afters next week when I can finish this something.

It's in my purse!

I am not a fan of purses.
I almost never carry one.
I find the popular big purses with huge flowers on the side cute, but not for me.
I usually just put my driver's license, credit card, and cash in my back pocket.
When the 10-year-old was cleaning last weekend,
he put my driver's license and credit card away somewhere.
I have been without it for two days because I keep forgetting to ask him where he put it.
Guess where I found it today...
In my purse!

Then I decided that it needed to be cleaned out.
I got rid of expired coupons and old receipts.
I even found four gift cards.
Time to go shoppin'!

Park City Deals

I love to find a good deal and today was a good day for finding some,
but I had to drive to Park City.
It was actually a nice ride.
I just happened onto some drapes that we need for a rental unit ($10 each)
and the guy was selling a bunch of other stuff too.
It was all from a hotel remodel job.
(They are in great condition, but some of them might end up with a coat of paint.)
I bought three end tables for bedrooms ($25 each)
and two for the downstairs family room ($10 each).

Thank you Mr. Marriott!
