Several years ago, I attended a class taught by and well-known homemaking guru, Daryl Hoole. One of her many bits of advice was to do "Something that Stays Done" every day. I have followed this advice off and on, but want to make it a habit in 2011!

P.S. To see the blog that inspired me to get started and to see more great ideas of things to get done, check out dirtylittlesecrets2010.blogspot.com. Thanks, Becky!

Three Men and a Baby

Whew!
It was a crazy day, but we got several somethings done!

Three men helped me work on something today.
The first man was the plumber.
He came and fixed the pipes in the wall and installed a new hose bib.
(We are finally getting the second flood in the big boys' room "mopped up.")
The second man was the handyman who replaced more sheetrock over the hole the plumber made.
The third man was the furnace repair guy who worked on the furnaces
and installed a new thermostat that doesn't occasionally make a rapid clicking noise.
Ahhhh!

The baby (my 2-year-old girl will always be my baby) had one of her therapists come
to work with her while two of the men were here.

None of these folks probably thought that they were going to be blogged about today,
but I'm sure glad that they all came!

The Playroom - Day Two

I got this project done in two days.
I went through every shelf, bin, box, drawer, etc.
I put everything in its proper place.

It started out like this (it had been neglected for a way too long)...
 And ended up like this...
As you can already see from the 2-year-old in the pictures,
I know this something won't stay done too long,
but the garbage and D.I. bags are gone forever
and the organizing should last a little while!

The Playroom - Day One

It is really sad that some parts of my house are in so much need of attention
that they take several days to finish.
I figure that at least they are getting done, right?
Hopefully it will only take a few minutes next time.

With a plumber coming to fix the hose bib pipe problem,
the basement needed some attention.
I recruited all of the kids to help.
The little girls job was to find small things on the floor that shouldn't be there.
We were able to avoid a choking episode and the floor is choke hazard free now, thanks to her!

Here are a couple of pictures.
Hopefully, this job won't take too many days.
I went through each drawer.
It's amazing what you can find in a drawer that is supposed to only have Legos in it!

I moved shelves around on this bookshelf to make a good spot for a few more toys.
It's a work in progress.
The best part was the two stuffed black garbage bags I got rid of.
One was full of garbage and the other is on it's way to the D.I.
After watching Toy Story 3 recently,
I felt a little bit bad for all of those suffocating toys in the D.I. bag,
but then I got over it!

4 nights of freedom!

Today's something will last for a little while.
I made some dinners for the freezer.
I love having meals ready to go for when there just are not enough hours in the day.
Just put it in the oven and a few hours later...dinner is served!

Two Twin Headboards

Today I finished something that I've been thinking about for a long time.
The 14 and 12-year-old boys have not had headboards on their beds.
With the forced bedroom remodel, I decided to make some.
With lumber from The Home Depot,
left-over batting from their aunt,
and two yards of thick fabric...
now they each have a headboard made out of fabric they picked out.
We'll be painting three walls tan and one wall dark blue as soon as the room is finished.
I love how they turned out.
The best part is the cost.
Only $20 for two twin headboards!

Gathering Supplies

I have been gathering supplies for tomorrow's project.
Wood from The Home Depot and left-over batting from my sister's stash.
I also bought some fabric a while ago that the two oldest boys picked out.
Can you guess what I'm making???

Something's gone!

Today's project was to get rid of something.
I have been filling bags and boxes with things I don't want or need anymore.
I filled up the back of the car and made a trip to the D.I. with them.
That something will stay done FOREVER!

A "New" Green Shelf

My sister-in-law gave me this shelf a couple of months ago.
It needed a little love.
I patched the holes on top (it used to have a hutch) and painted it today.
I drilled holes and added a couple of pull knobs too.
I think it turned out great.
I got the paint at WalMart.  It was on clearance for $5 and rang up for $2.50!
SCORE!

It's going to end up in the basement for a DVD player, etc. when we get a TV down there.

How does this happen?

Today's something was forced upon me.
The doorknob on the door out to the garage fell apart last week.
I seriously don't know how that happens.
We were just getting used to turning it slowly and pulling to get the door open without pulling the knob off.
Well, yesterday I went for a walk and when I got back I couldn't get in the house.
The pin inside the knob had fallen out with the knob when I closed the door when I left.
I proceeded to the tool box and took a hammer to the knob on the outside of the door.
A screwdriver helped me turn the mechanism so I could get in.
So...today's something was a trip to The Forklift Store (Home Depot) and installing a new doorknob!
Not a perfect match, but it does the job!

The garage...continued.

This something was the aftermath of the garage cleaning yesterday.
I had piles and boxes and bins of stuff that had to come back in the house.
I emptied them today.
Before...
After...
Can I just tell you how nice it was to walk out into the garage today?
Yea, it was super nice.
I went for a walk with the twins and didn't have to climb to get to the stroller:)!

The Garage!

With such great weather today and the kids out of school,
today's something was huge!
With help from a couple of my boys, we cleaned the garage.

Here are some of the dirty details...
We got rid of leaves from the fall.
We put away Christmas decorations and Halloween costumes.
 We filled the recycle bin.
We also filled the back of the car for a D.I. run.

The best part of being outside today was this little hint of spring!
The birds in the tree in our backyard were singing to me as I cleaned!

P.S.  Anybody wanna buy a fish tank?
The husband has two in the garage and has no time to get them sold!

The Central Vac

When we moved to this house, I wasn't sure if I'd like the central vacuum.
Now that I'm used to it, I love it...
until it gets clogged!
Last time it clogged, I tried every trick I could think of,
but ended up paying $65 to have it fixed.
I tried all the same tricks this time...
and it worked.
It's amazing what kind of trouble a 2" stick can cause!
No great before and after pictures this time...
just the tools I used.
This something will stay done until I let the kids vacuum again!
Actually, I think it was probably me this time;).

Noah's Ark

I went to Dollar Tree today while the 2-year-olds were at their class.
I found these fun Noah's Ark diecuts in the Vacation Bible School section.
I thought they would make great visual aids for a Noah's Ark lesson.
I can use them for the nursery at church and at home for Family Home Evening.
I laminated and trimmed them.
It was a nice break from organizing a cupboard:).

It's amazing how much I can get done in one hour while the kids are at school.
I also made it to WalMart for a few things including valentines for three boys!

The Office - Day Six

I only had time for a little something today.
I cleared off the top of the filing cabinet in the office.
Before...
After...
The box on top is my Cricut.
I bought it for scrapbooking, but it gets used more often for science fair projects.
I posted my 14-year-old's project last week.
He won his school's science fair!
I told him that it is the cool letters that made him win;).

The Coupon Binder

On Sunday, I was asked to be on the Provident Living Committee at church.
I taught at a workshop a year ago about saving money with coupons.
They are going to start a website/blog to post information for our stake on.
They want me to post deals that I find that others might be interested.
I've gotten behind on my coupons since I started this blog.
Today's something started like this...
 Then this...
 Then this...
 And finally, this...
I got all caught up today so I can start finding deals for my neighbors.
